Winter Digging Isn’t Always as Bad as You’d Think

A lot of homeowners assume any exterior digging has to wait until spring, but winter work is often more possible than people realize. In this part of the world, we don’t always get deep frost, so getting below grade can be surprisingly manageable—even in the colder months.

Not Much Frost, Not Much Trouble

When the ground hasn’t frozen deeply, excavation can move along almost like it would during other seasons. That means we can still access problem areas outside, investigate what’s going on, and complete repairs without putting everything on hold for months.

Why We Use a Tarp After the Hole Is Dug

You might notice we’ll tarp the area once the hole is already open. The tarp isn’t what makes digging possible—it’s what helps keep things workable after the fact. By holding in a bit of warmth and shielding the area from wind and temperature drops, it can make it easier (and more comfortable) to keep working efficiently.

Need Something Addressed This Winter?

If you’ve been putting off an exterior repair because you assumed winter makes it impossible, it may be worth a quick look. We can assess the conditions on your property, explain what’s realistic for this season, and if it makes sense, get started now—so you’re not dealing with the same issue again when the thaw and spring rain arrive.
